Religious Education Programs & Spaces
Let’s move beyond scholastic models of spiritual formation — together!
In the thirty years that I’ve been exploring how we share Quaker faith and practice in meetings, schools, and other spaces for all ages, some truths have emerged: Children have spiritual lives from the time they are born. Story and play are the native languages of childhood. Spaces share unspoken messages.
I wonder how we might reimagine religious education to speak to these truths?
My passion as a religious educator is the inclusion of children in worship.
Intervisitation, experiential learning, writing a seminary capstone on Children in Quaker Worship, and continuing education in this area of ministry have developed my toolkit of materials to support meetings and churches. Are you interested in exploring what “all together now” means? My greatest hope is to encourage Friends in meetings to explore the intersection of community, change, and faithfulness through experiments with all ages together worship.
I work with faith communities and schools to craft programs that will meet their needs.
Consultations begin with listening, and planning is a collaborative process.
Parent & Caregiver Support
Conversations, workshops, and consultation for Quaker parenting.
People who are parenting need their own spiritual nurture, and the support of communities. I am a trained workshop leader for the Quaker Parenting Initiative and have used publications like Paths to Quaker Parenting (Harriet Heath, ed.) and Tending Sacred Ground: Respectful Parenting (Pamela Haines) to facilitate workshops for people parenting.
Additional Workshop Topics
20 years of classroom teaching and program development, along with service on the boards of three Friends schools — and my own experience as a student and parent — shape what I offer for schools:
Quakerism in Classrooms & Community
Nurturing the Spiritual Lives of Children
Faith & Play in Friends schools
Support for Parents and Caregivers
School Governance
Consultation fees depend on the type of program, preparation needed, and size of group.
Travel expenses are in addition to program honorarium.
